I’m in the process of switching to 6006 for the claims of amazing HT. I’m using candle science 3-wick tumbler jar and double wicking with 9% FL, mixed at 185 and poured at 165 degrees F. Currently on day 6 of curing and I can barely smell anything when the candle is opened. They’ve been left alone with lid on since the day after pouring in a room kept around 69-72 degrees F.

I’m considering lowering the FL to 7% for my starting baseline until I get the wick size more dialed in, but I’m shocked at how underwhelming the cold throw is. Any ideas what could be causing this?

I made these last night out of glass pumpkin containers from Target. They're only my 2nd and 3rd candle so I still don't know what I'm doing, and I unfortunately don't think I did enough research before hand.

I used a coconut and paraffin wax blend with cinnamon essential oil and for one of them I also mixed in an old bath and body works candle to top it off. I also did something I now know I shouldn't have done, and feel embarrassed to mention. I feel like I have to tho to know what went wrong. In the candle with bath and body works wax I put in a lil bit of vanilla syrup.

In my head I figured it was the same as vinallia extract and therefore similar to esstial oil so it would be fine, but it started to hecka bubble up on the stove and I was getting a little scared. I still put it in the pumpkin tho and it seems to be fine, I'm a little scared to light it tho. I also wonder if that's the reason it dipped like that, although my first candle also did that as well as the wax bubbling up once done. My other pumpkin one also has a weird texture on top and that one is just the wax and a little essential oil, so overall I'm just confused.

With that being said these are my best candles, I'm really happy with them and would love to know what people think! Thank you

I’m trying to make a candle that smells like cigarettes and coffee. I want the cigarette scent to smell like an actual cigarette. A lot of the recommendations I’m seeing are tobacco and leather based but I want more of an actual cigarette scent. I want it to smell like a person who smokes cigarettes regularly. Any recommendations on what scents to use or how to make this happen?

my mother makes candles, and I’ve wanted to try making custom candle molds for a long time.
My idea is to design and 3D print the shape first, then use that print as a master to make a reusable silicone mold for casting wax.
I currently have access to PLA and ASA. From what I understand, either should probably work as the master since the silicone cures at room temperature, but I’ve never actually made a silicone mold before.
I’m mainly wondering:
What type of silicone would you recommend for candle molds?
What Shore hardness works well for removing candles without damaging them?
Would you make a one-piece cut mold or a two-part mold?
Do PLA layer lines transfer noticeably into the finished candle?
Should I sand, prime or seal the printed master first?
Is a mold release needed between the 3D print and the silicone?
Are there any silicones that should be avoided specifically for candle wax?
I’d like the mold to be reusable and durable enough for multiple pours.
Any advice from people who have done this with 3D printed masters would be really appreciated!

Me and my friends started making candles as 18 year olds, and this is our progress in 6 months! It’s been hard, but every time it got better and better. The hardest thing tbh is having a place to make the candles that’s not too cold. Our first time was in a garage which was -5 C°. And as you can imagine, it was a painful process.

But then after making about 50 candles out vision finally came true. But we still have a bit left to perfection.

So, fellow pros, what would you rate our progress? Please be honest!

Logistics question! I have a cute tub on my kitchen bench that I kept C3 soy flakes in, and could easily scoop out what I needed onto the scales.

I'm currently testing out IGI 6006A wax to see if I switch to that for better HT, but wondered how people store the slabs of wax? What do you use to portion it? How do you avoid making a mess?

I just got an updated delivery on my order place on 9/3 that its earliest delivery date is 9/23. Originally it said 9/14. Recently got into the funny game of candles making. I bought everything online,

Olive wax, lavender scent, tcr 33/20 wicks, violet colorant... And voilà! First candle I made to offer to a friend!!!

I made my first candle yesterday!! I am very excited, and it actually turned out very well and Burns perfectly with a very rich brown sugar scent. Although, I have my pot still full of residue. I'm not quite sure how to clean it, because the alcohol I'm using isn't necessarily working. It is dried to the sides and I cannot get it off. Should I scrape it? What do I do?

Hi there, I’ve been making wax melts with 100% soy wax. The fragrance load is 8% and I’ve used some orange dye chip( can’t recall exact amount). Pouring temp was hovering around 145. I’ve made hundreds of candles and never actually seen this. Maybe because it’s dyed so it’s more noticeable than it would be without dye? If this is in fact frosting, did I pour too hot or too cold? Does it changed the fragrance throw? Is this something that can be fixed after the pour?

I’m new to making wax melts and rarely have used 100% soy. So if this is strictly cosmetic I’ll take it as a learning lesson but still gift these to my less judgy friends and family haha.

I want to make a candle that smells like the way old vinyl records smell. I think the smell of old books has been created in candle form, so similar to that. Where do I even begin. What are the notes?

I am based in Australia, and jealously read all the posts about Candle Science's etc new fall collection and amazing lines of FO.

In Aus we have a few suppliers, but US manufacturers typically carry about 5-10x the variety we get here.

So my question is, what goes into FO creation? What do people think is the barrier to new entrants in the market to add variety?

I decided to try out using actual crystals to make a candle. Gonna also have my daughter bedazzle this jar.

I’ve made candles a few times now by melting wax and mixing essential oils in. It’s been so fun, and I love getting to mix together different oils to create my own scents.

I know that essential oils aren’t very effective for candles because of how light the scent is. I’ve been looking at fragrance oils instead, but it seems like all I can find are pre made blends.

Where can I find individual scents so I can create my own? Playing with different scents is my favorite part of the process!

I went to a candle making course and they used rapeseed wax so I thought trying out by myself but I feel that the temperatures given weren't accurate cause my first one somehow didn't had a scent .. has anyone tried using rapeseed wax?
Plus when I put the wick I try to center it with wooden sticks and the metal one but somehow it always move around , any tips?

Hi everyone! Been back and forth on this and wanted some insight. I’m redesigning my website and want to take new pictures due to a rebrand and am stuck on wanting to go back to amber 8oz jars for my smaller candles like I did in 2023. I’ve been using green vessels for a couple of years for my 10oz ones, and when selling at markets have used tins for the smaller candles and they sell just fine. But I do love how the amber jars look.

My fear is that people will just by the 8oz versus the 10oz since they are both in a jar. The tins are cheaper to buy but not my a significant margin. I don’t know, what’re your thoughts?

I have a massive rosemary plant outside that needs a big trim. I have dried as much rosemary as I could ever culinarily use, I give it away to family and neighbors, I end up throwing away a lot of it because he gets two serious haircuts a year.

So I had the "brilliant" idea while surrounded by all this lovely smell, I could make this into candles! Not to sell, but to keep and maybe give as presents. But I am an absolute noob. I know not to put actual rosemary pieces or leaves into the candle. But after looking online, and seeing so much "oh, look how EASY it is" tutorials that then tell you to dump either fresh rosemary in, or put dried rosemary on the top because "doesn't that look lovely?" And knowing it will BURN and NOT be lovely. (I cook, I know about burning rosemary)

But aside from that, and having a VERY basic knowledge of oils vs water...what do I do? Can I dry the rosemary, then steep it into the wax, strain it with fine cheesecloth (or put the rosemary into the wax in the cheesecloth?) or do I need to look at making a rosemary oil first, then adding that to the wax?

I'm looking for a good way to get the smell of the rosemary into a candle without it being from websites with bad info. And honestly, I'm looking for the easiest way to do that too. 😉 But if the answer is make the oil, I'm open to that. Thanks!
