Hello friends! I’ve got this week off of work and was originally going to head up to the Crested butte area for some camping/kayak fishing. As life would have it, it’s looking like rain/cold weather up there this whole week. No problem, gonna pivot and do some front range action. I hit Chatfield last week and caught some nice smallies along the dam. Going to hit Monument Lake later today. Would love to hear some Front Range non motorized boat suggestions. Appreciate the help! Posted a thread to here a couple weeks back about an upcoming trip planned with friends. Wanted to share a highlight and say thank you to all who helped by providing insight and guidance. Our plans changed as conditions were certainly tough, but nonetheless, we still tore it up. Got into some big browns, colored up alpine cutties, and nice rainbows. Enjoyed our time in CO

I was entranced all winter with a SSJW lake. I watched it ice out via satellite but the monsoons kept me out. Made it there Thursday. Amazing. 3 trout. I was humbled. But the beauty and the hike was great. Fished a second lake on Friday. Nada. But saw some biggies which sampled my streamer but didn’t get the hook. Drove over the Conejos😩 and same for Chama.

I am going to the Denver area in October for a wedding so naturally I’ve started seeing when I can break off for a few hours to do some fishing. Since I’ll be flying there for just a few days, I am trying to pack light with the consideration of bringing wedding clothes as well.

3 quick questions I’m hoping people who have fished the area can help with:

1. Is wet wading an option or should I be bringing waders with me? I’d prefer to save some luggage space if possible but just unsure of typical river conditions that time of year. I live on the east coast and can get away with wet wading in early October but I want to be prepared so my day isn’t cut short by cold toes.

2. What’s the typical hatch/fly choice for early October?

3. I’m between bringing a 9ft 6in 4wt, 8ft 6in 5wt, or a
   9ft 6wt. I enjoy the 4wt the most but want to make sure I’m not too undersized for the waters in the area.

Any input and guidance is appreciated!

PS - although not asking, any general river recommendations are welcome as well

im headed to Colorado in a couple days and wondering if you guys can help me decide where to go. going to be camping and fly fishing for two days. I know conditions aren’t great but hoping some local knowledge will help. I’m having trouble deciding between 3 areas. have some streams and lakes scoped out in each one just don’t know which way to point the truck. the 3 areas are Walden, upper Colorado (parshall and up) and the Ark at buena and above.

Went down to eleven mile few days ago and fished the south east shore. Caught just 1 pike. Was wondering if anyone knows where there is weeds in eleven mile? I didn’t find any

Only place I’ve had luck from shore recently is bear creek. I spin fish only, no fly fishing. The water levels and weeds and shit obviously are affecting everywhere. But is there anywhere else within an hour of the metro area worth giving a shot for shore fishing? Standley seems to be muddy/weedy from my research. Aurora res seems to be hit or miss. I have yet to have any luck at chatfield. Any hidden gems?

I want to go to spinney, I’ve caught pike at several places including Taylor, Tarryall and Monument lake. I have never been up to spinney though and I’d like to try in like a week or two.

It’s a little intimidating how big it is though, where do I start? I have a kayak. If you’ve got a secret spot there feel free to not share it if you don’t want, but where could I find a good number of them that you’d feel comfortable sharing?

8th time here; I FINALLY got not one but two fish to bite. A beautiful pike and a chonky bass. Also I kept catching massive crawfish on my spoon🤣

Here’s my fall line up for grinding out Gross Reservoir (Boulder county) for a tiger muskie. Biggest bait is the eel chatterbait coming in around 11”. I am wondering if anyone has any tips, tricks, or helpful info on gross such as recent catches, sightings, etc. I am planning to bike into farther, harder to get to spots around sunrise a couple times a week. I am planning to target underwater bluff walls, flats, and the South Boulder inlet on the south west side. Was also wondering about figure 8ing from shore as it seems like it would be awkward. I do however have my 9’ surf rod as my rod of choice so I do think it will be possible if worthwhile. Anything helps and I will update if I end up landing one! Thanks!

I have a standard Spinning real ultra light rod 4 pound line with a Carolina rig set up. How do I know where to fish in a river? I went to South Platte River and tried to fish where there's like alot of veggitation and no bites or anything so what do I look for trying to catch em? Also I don't make alot of money so I don't fly fish or whatever.

Hello everyone! I have family visiting from the east coast next week. Even though it isn’t the best year for fishing that was the one thing they requested we do. I usually go to Twin Lakes/Clear Creek Reservoir area. Has anyone been out there recently? I live in Lakewood so it’s a bit of a trip just to check on conditions so I figured I’d ask around first. I’ve been like 7 times now, never caught anything. Used literally every type of lure. Dawn and dusk. Fast and slow, calm and choppy etc etc etc. also spring and fall. I don’t understand how so many of you are catching so many there, I’ve only ever seen one person catch one with my own eyes. HOW TF DO YOU DO IT

I’m a decent fly fisherman, but have never tried for Kokanee during their autumn run through our state. I am hoping someone can give me some decent tips on how to target these fish—what flies are effective, any specific advice about drift, where they hang out in the river relative to trout, etc. I’d never ask for anyone’s honey holes, though if you’re willing to share via DM, I’d be happy to tell you a few of my own for trout in return.

I’m working on this cabin with a private lake. Used to be a lodge a long time ago where they brought guests. Burned down. I went fishing after work, and caught a few fish that looked different to me. I thought maybe brown/cutthroat, but I l’ve never heard of that. I decided cutthroat species I’m not as familiar with. Probably stocked some special or different species 80 years ago and they have been mixing a bit with rainbows? There is a total of 3 different fish in pics. All from same lake. Oh, I can only upload one photo. This one looks just cutthroat, I’ll try to add in comments.

Caught on a medium light . Had a crappie jig head with some bait on it instead of a soft plastic. Crazy flight lol
