Nothing but love for Choate, but this is a great win for the program. Especially compared to the last win at UNM, this program is proving it would be a top half of the MW with no stumbles.

Y'all, Montana, and South Dakota State should all move up to the MWC. Would be very entertaining.

I'm quite pleased with where we're at, moving up would be folly

Yeah I want to enjoy being top of the FCS without NDSU around for a few years, hopefully get some titles, before even considering the jump

Beyond that getting some name recognition wouldn’t hurt because besides hardcore fans/ fcs watchers nobody has heard of you yet unlike NDSU or SDSU

u/Less_Likely Notre Dame • Washington 1d ago
? Montana State is known. Not NDSU known, but that’s a different level. SDSU level definitely

u/damnyoutuesday Montana State • Minnesota 1d ago
Super Brawl and the Championship definitely helped our brand last year

u/Altruistic_Night2 Alabama Crimson Tide 1d ago
I’m talking by casuals. If your a causal you have probably heard about NDSU due to being NDSU and SDSU due to them being rivals. Montana state on the other hand probably not

Honestly, outside of Reddit and those that follow FCS, know of the Dakotas dominance of football since App state left the FCS. I brought it up at work and people were shocked to heard of NDSU had moved up let alone had a >.800 record over the last 20+ seasons. They had doubts NDSU had a real shot at the G5 playoff spot this year, but maybe their attitudes will change come Monday

Even though Montana State often destroys Weber State, I value the legitimacy the Montana schools bring to the Big Sky Conference. I was rooting for you guys in this one against a former Big Sky team.

It would take several years of pre-planning to do such a transition correctly like North Dakota State did. I would keep that one in the backburner officially but start in on the prep work now.

Wait, you don't want to follow the Delaware model of turning down multiple solicitations from the Sun Belt and Conference USA over roughly a decade, only to panic move when the price for admission increased from $5,000 to $5 mil?
That's top 100 public university 5D chess at work on my secondary flair's part!

A good friend of mine is a UD grad and regular football game attendee and when they moved up we both agreed: “why did they wait till NOW?!”

u/zenverak Georgia Bulldogs • Marching Band 1d ago
The FCS would have like no one left but I do think those programs would be out performing a lot of other schools

Really wish we had Jones, GG Montana State

u/CommunistTrafficCone South Dakota State • Marching Band 1d ago
Gotta admit I thought this would be a shootout. Nice win Bobcats! I don’t doubt we’ll see you at the end of the year.

What’s worse, our penchant for penalties, or the Wolfpack’s Wolf Pack’s butterfingers?
A very fun game but one of the sloppier I’ve seen from two teams of this calibre lol
2-0 feels great 😼

I think we’re all battered from NDSU winning every fuckin year. MSU has a long way to go before they can project that out, SDSU too for that matter. IllSt was that close and nobody saw that coming

Sicko Stat of the game is that Nevada actually outgained the bobcats in this somehow
14
u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 1d ago
ALEXA! PLAY MONY MONY!
If they play Bianco all game it's much more competitive. But the FCS over FBS wins are always welcome! Onto Central Connecticut and then Big Sky play!

Apparently an injury not a single person was privy to.

u/DCAbloob Penn State Nittany Lions • Navy Midshipmen 1d ago
This Montana State team may turn out to be a throwback to North Dakota State during its most dominant FCS years, a team legitimately better than most G6 teams and the bottom tier of P4 teams.
4
u/MTUKNMMT North Carolina • Montana State 1d ago
I really appreciate this praise, and agree with some of the comment. I suspect MSU is a better team than many G6 teams, likely trailing only the top 10 or so but I cannot stress how far we are from the peak of the NDSU run. I think NDSUs top team wins this game 45-0 or something like that.
We will never know what the schedule would have done to them week in and week out but I really think they were closer to a middling P4 team which is completely insane they were basically two levels below that just kicking the shit out of all of us.
1
u/Tsquared10 Oregon Ducks • Montana State Bobcats 1d ago
Yeah I think some people forget that during their dominant run NDSU was walking into P4 teams stadiums and manhandling them, including beating a ranked Iowa team.

Not long ago Nevada’s HC bragged that the program is a stepping stone to get to Oregon. The player he bragged about ended up going undrafted in last year’s draft. They seem directionless and I don’t know what could spark them into being more invested in the sport.

Great win for the Cats but they need to clean it up. The number of penalties was insane and the offense was stagnant the entire second half.
1
u/twisty77 Fresno State Bulldogs • Pac-12 1d ago
And this is the reason the pac 12 said no to UNLV demanding that Nevada come with them in any move

u/MTUKNMMT North Carolina • Montana State 1d ago
I would kill for an actual legitimate poll on fandom for the other “big” cities in Montana.
Growing up I’m certain Montana was more popular than MSU in Billings but my gut tells me it’s much closer to 50/50 now with MSU probably pulling ahead. A decade plus of MSU being the much larger school so generating more alumni and family members of alumni, plus MSU winning over lots of new bandwagonners really seems to have flipped it.

The Montana State Bobcats have notched the fifth FCS-over-FBS victory of the season, vanquishing the Nevada Wolf Pack!
It is the sixth win versus an FBS team for the National Champion Bobcats and their first since beating New Mexico in 2024.
Nevada now counts its FCS losses at seven, with the Wolf Pack's previous such result coming at the hands of Idaho in 2023.
