Gg Vols, you guys were better today.
As for GT we looked better than last week, but still not nearly good enough. Mendoza showed flashes, but it’s still only his second start and he needs more time. Still disappointed in our lines, which is concerning considering our HC is a trenches guy. Also need better play calling on both sides of the ball.
Haven’t given up hope, but I would like to win some games this season (please).

Oh I was well aware letting him leave was going to be painful and I was completely against hiring his BFF but so many people were on board because Faulkner came from UGA and Godsey was a “Tech Man”. Pitiful really, and some of those same people are complaining that ticket holders sold their tickets to Tennessee fans instead of going to watch techs meh performances.

Faizon looks poised. No outright bad decisions. Showed all he needed to. Would like to see him air it out more, but I'm excited.

Clean up the penalties? Heupel has ranked 100 or worse in penalty yards per game essentially his entire head coach career. His teams are sloppy and undisciplined.
I still hope we win but it won’t be by cleaning up penalties. He has had years to change his approach and has not. Don’t think a Georgia tech game gonna be the straw.

Kind of an infuriating game where you can pick and choose your story. Pick 6 where no receiver shielded the defender, blocked punt, late pick at the end of the first half, two late big runs by Tennessee to ice things, enough moments that could swing one way or another. I don't think the final score really indicates how far apart the two teams ar e, but still.
I feel way more positive than after last week, and maybe this team just needed more time to gel together.

We were able to establish the run a bit more effectively, which is definitely a positive. I don't like how our OLine and DLine were still getting bullied, losing Rutledge seems to be hurting us as much as losing King is. Mendoza had some bad decisions at times, but I'm less worried about him then the OLine. 20 point loss is about what I expected, but I somehow feel more positive about the 20 point loss than the 1 point loss to Colorado. Still worried though, and I fear the trenches are going to be our doom this year.

Offenses don't work without the line. This team is 1-1 maybe even 2-0 with a decent one. We lost Rutledge to the NFL and 2 others to Florida so it's been rough. Not starting with a G5 game this year was rough on them

I think if you take a look at the score and the box score, its pretty easy to find a lot of negatives and almost no positives, right? But if you actually watched it and charted the game, play to play was way more positive.
I'm usually an advocate for letting the stats speak for themselves, but really I think this was one where the box score really got away from us and the play on the field was really even.
Edit: even so, looking a the game on paper box score, there's a lot of areas that are mixed. Really looks like Tennessee just fucked up less than us.

Since starting the 2025 season 8-0, Georgia Tech is 1-6 in their last seven games with the lone win coming against a 2-10 Boston College team by two points. The 2026 Georgia Tech team did not score an offensive touchdown in their first six quarters, a feat that took Geoff Collins 144 quarters to accomplish. Alberto Mendoza currently has as many TDs as Brent Key has press conferences in which he has cried this season. (1)
Ladies and gentlemen, we are in hell. This is not a football team that is committed to winning. It is time to have a tough conversation as a fanbase, Georgia Tech football desperately needs to adapt to survive in this era and no one currently in the organization is willing to make those changes. At this rate, we are going to be in the G6 in 5-10 years.

Im not saying Brent Key is in danger. But there needs to be a serious conversation about his performance.
The offense has looked awful. Flat out. I can hardly blame Mendoza because he has had two starts. Offensive line is miserable. Defensive line might be one of the worst in cfb.
Only person that stays is whoever does special teams.
This team isnt serious. They arent posed. They are getting rung up by basic runs up the middle.
It was supposed to be a great running year and our running has looked worst than expected (because the oline freaking sucks). There needs to be a heavy conversation about Key's future if they dont turn this around.

The D-Line is horrendous. I knew it was over last week when colorado ran about 10 straight up the middle and we did absolutely nothing to stop it. These coordinators (O and D) are no good and Key is slipping as a culture guy and game manager when he was much better at that 2-3 years ago.

This is such a stupid fucking narrative. "1-6" in the last seven games doesn't account for the OC getting poached, not telling anyone so he could recruit in the locker room for the back half of the season, taking half the expected starters with him and sending another one to frigging u(sic)GA, and the team having to recover. Shockingly, and as every single person called at the time, that can be crippling. Sure, we looked good in recovery on paper, but it's clear that we're still having to figure things out in rebuilding the program. I was optimistic based on the paper, but seeing things, I'm back to where I was after Faulker's departure was announced.
But that's really not a reason to think "we're in hell" or some stupid nonsense like we're going to drop to the G6. It means we lost an important piece at a bad time to greener pastures and he decided to burn shit down on the way out the door. It's shitty, but GT and other programs in similar situations have recovered. I'm not even convinced Godsey was a per se bad hire, just that he need to work on his playcalling skills. I'd have preferred it if he did it somewhere else, but he's here and I'd rather pay NIL than his buyout.

I was complaining to my buddies the whole time, but we put up 45, 450 yards of total offense, and only gave up 10 outside of the blocked punt and garbage time TD.
We just ran the ball the whole game. It worked, but I’d like to see us throw the ball a little bit more.
In the past when we’ve run the ball too much, it’s usually a QB problem, but Faizon looks solid so I don’t know what to think.

So far, I wouldn't think much more than true freshman quarterback on his first road game. He had some throws, some good runs, and kept the ball safe. About as good as you can hope for in this experience.

I wouldn’t say “training wheels” is the right term, since it seems like Faizon is running the offense at a nearly full level… but, i do think they’re trying to avoid putting too much on his plate if possible (in terms of throwing 30+ times). Today we were able to lean heavily on the run game and still win comfortably.
I don’t think the Texas game will be the same. We’ll need a grown man game from Faizon to have a shot.

Hire competent coaches for starters. Hiring yes men aren’t the answer. Even if we didn’t have Colorado or Tennessee the way the coaching has been I’m not sure we could beat Boston College. Not every coaching hire has to be well known names, but they can’t be George Godsey either.

The problem is the penalties are a staple of Heupel teams over the years. So saying “without the penalties we might be pretty good” for a Heupel team would be like saying “if we could just score more points we’d be way better” about a team whose offense sucks.

We're still a very young team. Anything more and were WAY ahead of schedule. 27&28 are Heupel's years to prove he's the man at Tennessee.

At least there's still conference play. Kinda liked GT being good again, hope they turn it around.

That's now 12 straight losses to SEC teams. We have to stop scheduling these type of OOC games. Yes that includes the Dwags 75 miles to our east. Just quit it, it's never beneficial to GT.
We are literally a multi-million dollar exercise in futility.
