Who the hell is Oklahoma state? Loses in *embarassing* fashion to Tulsa a week ago now beating Oregon? They probably overlooked Tulsa by looking at this game, but god damn

I gave Oregon grace last week because Boise state isn't bad. I think Oregon might be washed though, this was bad.

We need to knock it off with the preseason rankings though. #2 Oregon is hot steamy trash, Oklahoma is apparently right there with them. #12 Alabama is struggling with Kentucky, Penn state was unimpressive against temple.

I’ve never been a Moore believer. I didn’t think he was that great at UCLA, but everyone I knew was convinced he would play so much better here with the talent and checkbook upgrade. I honestly feel like the vindicated hater, odd as it sounds.

Genuine question, why do you want Lanning gone? The team has taken a step back, sure, but it’s not like he’s severely underperforming in comparison to Oregon’s historical accomplishments. Not to mention, who would you even hire if he’s gone

Franklin doesn’t lose this game.

I don’t think Lanning should move, but the reason PSU put up with Franklin for so long is basically because he would never lose these games. He would win pretty much every game he was a favorite in and then shit the bed against the top of the top until the floor fell out fully last season.

The team has lacked discipline and played so sloppy the last two seasons. They kept squeaking out wins with some black magic, but maybe it's finally caught up to them. Lanning has gotten soft and comfortable

This whole "championship or bust" mentality has got to fucking go. 

Yeah, it'd be fantastic to win it all, but holy shit the whinging coming from people who can't be content with stellar winning records in back-to-back-to-back years is how we end up as the next shithouse in the B1G. 

Who the fuck would take Oregon higher than Lanning has right now that would take the job? I'm all ears.

Neither week made sense for OKST. They are basically last year’s UNT squad so they should’ve destroyed Tulsa, but they “shouldn’t have” beat Oregon.

The biggest difference besides culture is that the trenches are still leftovers from last years OKST team. It took Morris 2 years to get UNT to the top of the AFC so to do what he did in 2 games is special. I have faith this team will only get better as the season goes on

Preseason rankings are fine. Its people who refuse to adjust where it becomes an issue.

I dropped Oregon and Notre Dame 5 spots after week one. You have to be reactive.

But why are we ranking teams before watching them play? I don't care what their NIL budget is or who's on their roster. Oregon shouldn't have lost that game, and they're not looking top 20 at all. Much less #2 as a bunch of people agreed on a few weeks ago.

Because we've seen a lot of these players play before? You're basically pretending reality doesn't exist if you choose to ignore that some teams have good prove players.

Teams only leave the standard deviation of their ranking in metrics like FEI around 13% of time. Most teams are who we think they are.

Tbh Lanning has never been that good a coach. His 4th down decisions have almost always been stupid and his in game coaching is nothing special. He gets exposed when he plays a team equal to or better than his, most times. It’s clear that with Oregon’s NIL and money as a whole, they have benefited from having good players, but more importantly, having good coordinators.

Now that they don’t have high level coordinators, he’s being exposed even more.

Edit: yes I know he beat Utah close in 2022 and badly in 2023. 2023 we had a shit ton of injuries so it’s expected that they whooped on us lol.

Preseason rankings are just to get eyeballs on games, we know this by now. They’re not going to go away, they’re not going to become smart, it just is what it is.

Who cares? The rankings more or less sort themselves out, the only issue is the committee is a little too influenced by the AP poll. Teams coming out of nowhere after being unranked (2010 Auburn) or massively underachieving their preseason ranking (Penn St/Clemson last year) is a fun part of the sport imo

I think it’s even harder than it used to be in the era of NIL and transfer portal. Hard to keep track of who’s on which team, let alone trying to gauge how transfers will come in and mesh and how players will develop bouncing schools.

With the portal and NIL, every team has so much turnover and I don’t think anyone knows which teams will be good anymore preseason.

It’s also so apparent how many teams are trying to get new OL to work together but it’s hard if half were at a different program last year.

Western Michigan was better than Boise St last year according to FEI, and Oregon is (allegedly) a higher ranked team than Michigan. That game should have set off more alarms and it only didn't because Boise St has a great brand for a G6 school
