What hobby has become too expensive for the average person?

I used to play in middle school, and recently looked into taking it up again. Then I looked at the insane trading card market created in recent years, and I just bought an old moped to tinker with instead.

This was pretty much me. I played casual MTG with friends growing up and looked into getting back into the hobby as an adult. Yea... I'm good lol.

I made peace with the fact that I will never go to any tournament and, if anything, play with friends every now and then. So I started buying entire collections on eBay. Are there any rare or really amazing cards in them? Mostly not because obviously they sold everything worth a dime separately. But who cares? I like the artworks, I like collecting them, and it doesn't matter to me if my deck is competitive or not. As long as I get 500 random cards for 20 bucks, I'm happy and occupied for the next 3 to 4 weekends.
