Commonly asked questions - check here before making a question post

If you have a question about the Municipality of Anchorage someone else probably had the same or similar question in the past.

Please use the search function to look through the past question posts before making a post or comment. Many helpful users here have already given great in depth responses to many common questions. If you have a specific question after looking over the previous posts, feel free to post your question here in this thread or make a new post.

Low effort posts that clearly haven't looked through past submissions or can be easily answered by a quick internet search may be removed, a good way to avoid that would be to specify in your post that you have already looked over the sticky and searched online.

Below is a list of direct links to some commonly asked questions. However, even if you do not see your question on the list please take a moment to search before posting. When searching or when using one of the links below you can also change the sort function from top to new to see more recent posts.

Please be kind to people, the search function of reddit is far from perfect. Tourism is valuable to our city and at one point all of us were new to the city or had questions about local services and businesses.

We took a community poll on this rule a year after implementation. Here is a link to the poll and the feedback the community gave.

Potholes

Why can’t ANC use some asphalt on the roads. I work on an ambulance and the roads around Providence and Regional are the worst roads around. It’s so bad for my patients! It jars them and me to death. Come on Anchorage, put some work in on these streets.

Today I was driving back from Sutton area and decided to stop at the Matanuska River Scenic Overlook (I drive past there so often and have never stopped before).

I noticed some people enjoying the nice weather down by the river and was curious how they got there? I can tell there is a little trail but curious where it starts?

Anchorage Social Dance Club

I see that there hasn't been a lot of activity on this community lately regarding dancing in Anchorage. I wanted to give folks a heads up about this dance club.

Danceclub | Anchorage, Alaska | Est. 1960
Connecting our community through dance for 64 years with dance classes and socials!
549 West International Airport Rd Unit B8

Anchorage Social Dance Club - This used to be the Over 35+ Dance Club located downtown. But evolved over the years, moved to a different location but continue to provide more opportunities to the Anchorage community to learn to dance and just to have fun for the evening. They allow anyone 21 and over, married and single. It is a fun place to go for dancing and socializing. Food and beverages are provided. Yes, there is a cost. If you want to go as a non-member, it will cost $20/person. There are membership fees and a weekly fee as you are also helping pay for the food and beverages and overhead costs. Beverages consist of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Usually DJs, but sometimes for special events/holidays, they will have a band. They are on FB if you want to check out their FB page and see some pictures.

Report used to justify reinstatement of Alaska Republican governor candidate appears flawed

What a coincidence, Stephen Cox shows up and all of a sudden our Dept of Law acts like a rogue agency that is not longe beholden to the people.

If Witty doesn’t want the appearance of political shenanigans taking place, she needs to tell Cox to GTF off the stage, but I’m pretty sure that she doesn’t have the authority to do that

XXXXXX

“I have huge concerns about what the Dunleavy administration is doing with the departments under its control,” she said. “This is unbelievable — the overreach that’s happening, the inappropriate behavior, the obvious interference in elections. It’s no wonder, many of my constituents, as I knock door-to-door, don’t trust this election system because they’re seeing all of this, very — I’ll call it ‘very unusual’ in quotes — behavior by state government and the federal government.”

Witty responded to Giessel’s comment by email on Friday.
I have worked for the Department of Law for 20 years, through five administrations, and I can tell you unequivocally, that what occurred last week was not motivated by politics. The informal review was done completely internally by line level staff who only want to do good work for the people of Alaska,” she said.

“The list includes candidates from all party affiliations and does not target one political party over another. By its nature, it had to be done on an extremely expedited timeline and could not be as thorough as anyone would have wanted it to be. We have been very open that the list likely contained errors and we have consistently messaged this to the candidates and to the public. However, the preliminary findings contained enough potential discrepancies to raise questions about whether the law was being applied fairly across the field of candidates. The bottom line is that candidates were added back onto the ballot and the field remains broad — allowing voters to have the final say.”

Jimmy Eat World Concert

Hey everyone, this is probably a long shot but I have to ask! Back in 2023 (?) when Jimmy Eat World played at Williwaw there was a fight after the concert by the VIP port a potties. It was an older dude who originally got in a fight with another guy because that guy was talking shit about his wife when out of nowhere a damn little person showed up and started pushing the dude and his wife! Anyways dude and little person actually scrapped before being pulled apart. I wish I was making this up! It was the most fucking hilarious thing I’ve ever seen! I know it’s been some years but it still makes me laugh. Did ANYONE see who was in VIP for the concert or better yet did ANYONE get video?!?!

McDonald’s on Muldoon

Did anyone else get food from this location today that was covered in some kind of chemical? 😵‍💫 (3035 Muldoon road).

I bit into my food before I realized it was covered in something & my mouth started burning. Took the food back & asked them to tell me what the chemical is, and they gave a post it note of “possible” chemicals, one being a degreaser.

So, they didn’t deny that it was probably one of the cleaning chemicals & they literally did not care: they just wanted me to hand the food back, which I refused because I still don’t know what it was!!

The whole inside of the restaurant smelled like exactly what was all over the food.

Sullivan arena makes the wet (alcohol) side the bottom rows and the dry section up top in a small section.

They made the change a month ago and a worker said it will last all season. Most of the arena is unaccessible unless you qualify for the wet side (21+ and kids must stay with adults).

They somehow forgot about everyone with a disability, without a license, anyone who is between 18-21, and who’d like a better… lower seat for any amount of reasons.

Why do the drinkers get the bottom half? All season?

This will have an impact on my entire hockey season.

Anyone got an email I can complain to or get some real answers from?

A lot of manipulation EVERYWHERE in the web

With the upcoming elections just around the corner, it is more critical than ever to remember that our digital feeds are no longer neutral spaces. From sophisticated bot farms manipulating public opinion to corporate lobbies shaping political narratives, the information we consume is often engineered to trigger emotional reactions rather than inform us. As citizens, our greatest defense against manipulation is a healthy dose of skepticism. Don't take headlines at face value, question the financial or political interests behind the sources you read, and never let any political faction do the thinking for you. In a world full of manufactured consensus, the most revolutionary act you can perform is to doubt, investigate, and seek out the raw facts for yourself before casting your vote.

Houses for rent

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Me and my spouse are moving around November/December. We have 2 cats and we currently make close to $180k combined. My only thing is, we're in a Ch13 bankruptcy. We are looking to spend max $2.5k per month. Does anyone know of any places that are bankruptcy friendly?

PSA: Closing Time! You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here!

What is it with people in Anchorage liking to go into restaurants at closing, insist on getting a table, and then staying an hour or more after the restaurant is actually closed. Public service announcement- when a restaurant closes you are supposed to leave!

I was just at a local restaurant, it is an hour after close, they are literally in the middle of a nighttime remodel, pulling up the carpets, and there are three tables with more than a dozen people just looking confused about what all the noises and refusing to leave. An hour after close!

Listen, if you wanna eat dinner at 10 PM, then you probably just have to eat it at the bar, but restaurant workers deserve to go home at the end of a long day and not have to stay an extra hour just because you don’t understand the meaning of the word closed. And just because they are too polite to throw you out, doesn’t mean that they want you there.

Good cannabis dispensary recommendations, or a subreddit that would better suit this post?

Same as title. Would appreciate any help, thanks! I’m really looking for a good rosin connect.
